Sutton Hoo

Sutton Hoo is a group of low grassy burial mounds overlooking Woodbridge and the River Deben in SE Suffolk, England. In 1939 excavations brought to light the richest burial ever discovered in Britain, an Anglo-Saxon ship containing the treasure of one of the earliest English Kings, Rędwald, King of East Anglia. Orford Castle

Standing on the Suffolk coast, Orford Castle built by King Henry II in the mid to late 12th century was positioned to ward off the threat of coastal invasions. Framlingham Caslte

Roger Bigod built the castle, between 1189 and 1200, to replace his father's castle, which Henry II had destroyed in 1175. The castle has 12 hollow towers (a 13th collapsed) connected by a large curtain wall, 13m high and 2.5m thick. Woodbridge
 
Woodbridge has 1400 years of history - and the town has retained an interesting variety of historical architecture - it has the River Deben - for boating and riverside walks - and the world-famous Tide Mill. Woodbridge is an interesting town to walk around - it enjoys a proper 'high street' (the Thoroughfare) - with many independent real shops!
 
 
Framlingham
 
Framlingham is a small historic market town in the heart of Suffolk that boasts many tourist attractions. These include a 12th Century curtain-walled castle where Mary Tudor was proclaimed Queen, St. Michael's church which is said to contain some of the finest tombs in Europe and Framlingham College, an imposing mock-gothic building which overlooks Framlingham Mere, a lake which is a haven for wildlife.
 
Aldeburgh - Thorpeness
 
Aldeburgh's golf and sailing clubs are widely regarded and stand amongst the best in the country and the town has long benefited from its association with Aldeburgh Productions which organises a year round programme of musical events culminating in the annual Aldeburgh Festival which is centred on the town and at the nearby concert venue at Snape Maltings.
 
 
Snape Maltings
 
Snape Maltings is a unique collection of granaries and malthouses nestling beside the River Alde. Shops, galleries and restaurants fill the old buildings where local barley was once malted for the brewing industry.
 
Dedham vale and Constable country
 
Located on the Suffolk/Essex border Dedham vale was the birthplace of renowned artist John Constable and has become popular with visitors for holidays, walks, tours, cycling and day trips.

Suffolk Coast Path

This long-distance path follows the coast for 50 miles from Lowestoft to Felixstowe through a seaside delight of sand, shingle, broads, marshes, and dunes. The path is blessed with an abundance of birdlife and wildflowers. The Suffolk Heritage Coast is also famous for the Martello Towers.

Rendlesham Forest walks and mountain bike trail

Rendlesham Forest covers approximately 1500 hectares and is located in Suffolk's coastal heathland belt known as the Sandlings. The forest consists of large areas of coniferous plantations as well as broadleaved belts, heathland and wetland areas. Click here to find out more.
